What can you do about it?  Other than drop everything and jet down to some tropical island, here are some of my ideas on how to turn your mid-winter blahs around…

  • Get a new haircut, use self-tanner, get a free makeover at a department store (you might just find a new product you cannot live without), start a new exercise routine.
  • Arrange a spa day with your girlfriends
  • Sign up for a PiYo class or any new exercise
  • Start planning your summer vacations…even just the anticipation of lounging on a sunny deck on a balmy summer day by the ocean waves is enough to make me smile
  • Learn new recipes…break up your routine – be creative
  • Be productive: take advantage of all the “indoor” time by tackling projects you’d never do in the nicer weather and busier times such as organizing your old photos and getting them online, creating a recipe book from all your old “family” recipe cards, purge ALL your closets including linen, coat, and “junk” closet (you know you have one!), work on your budget, prepare taxes, make a photo book from your last vacay, scrapbook, etc. These don’t sound particularly fun, but accomplishing one of those things that is always on the bottom of your to-do list feels amazing!
  • Take up needlepoint or quilting (I really want to make my kids a quilt when they go off to college from all their special t-shirts, jerseys, blankets, etc. from their childhood. Sniff sniff…)
  • Redecorate a room or a bathroom
  • Add wallpaper somewhere in your house
  • Find a new hobby…maybe sign up for a painting class
  • Retail therapy!
